Was the Firepower update not balanced for campaign use? The Colonial ships presently seem hugely lacking in, well, firepower, ironically. I have to wonder, since I've watched this game being played on YouTube plenty and not seen these issues: They seem like an awful lot of fleet cost (given how much of the fleet is dedicated towards carrier purposes) for just killing raiders. They're undoubtedly useful for killing raiders, but once the raiders are dead they don't really seem to add anything. They really don't scare larger ships (I try to use them to support my broadsides where possible, but they don't contribute much - certainly not enough to prevent reinforcements from happening), and are trivially countered by Cerastes. If the enemy has a decent number of Cerastes, I see absolutely no way to prevent serious losses.Ĥ) Vipers don't actually seem that powerful. This is in addition to the other issues I'm having. They aren't so much anti-fighter ship as uber-versatile pack hunters. I always lose the initiative.ģ) If the enemy is packing a few Cerastes, not only can they easily eliminate my Vipers, making a large portion of my fleet cost useless, but I've seen a group of them easily tear through an Artemis in a single turn with their guns. I just don't do enough damage with the broadsides to really deter the enemy from not charging me, and a Battlestar (unsurprisingly) isn't manueverable enough to be swinging around on a dime to compensate. I can't easily manuever to put my strongest armour against the enemy without moving the whole formation and I'm unable to disengage when Revenants invariably barrel straight towards me, because I'd lose all my firepower and expose myself to missiles. Obviously dropping the flak shield means my ships are dead in one round, so this doesn't seem optional, but if they get reinforcements I'm dead too.Ģ) Whilst I'm maintaining my broadsides, assuming I'm maintaining a formation with the Adamants, I am at a huge tactical disadvantage. I am paying attention to the enemy missile cooldowns to optimise my flak shields, but I'm not even half way through their cruiser fleets before they start getting reinforcements. I'm keeping the Adamants under cover of the Artemis' flak shields, maintaining a perpendicular approach to the enemy fleet, and using the Manticores for hit-and-run attacks, whilst adding their torpedoes to the broadside firepower.ġ) If I keep the flak shield up to prevent enemy missile strikes I'm not able to sustain nearly enough firepower with the Artemis. as the game seems to think I massively overpower the enemies. I'd like to throw in some cruisers, but getting the Artemis' broke my bank account, and I've read Adamants + Artemis are a typical grouping, so I'd hope it would work, esp. My fleet groups largely consist of an Artemis flanked by Adamants and Manticores. The auto-resolve seems to think I should be winning every fight easily, but my fleets are wiping everytime when I manually control them. I could handle the early missions easily (I lost 1 ship in the first dozen missions or so), but once the enemy started employing multiple heavy cruisers I've really struggled to deal with them. All except one of them totally missed, and that last one nicked the celestra, but that thing is not well armored and a 'nick' can do some serious damage.I've found after about 30 missions I've hit an insurmountable difficulty spike. One battle I hid that ship behind an adamant the entire fight, and the enemy fired something like 5 or 6 long-range torpedo barrages at it. It just doesn't make a whole lot of sense that the AI would target only that ship, especially given how difficult I make it for them to hit it. So this could be a cheesy way to manipulate the AI into wasting its missiles/torpedoes.Yeah, yeah, I know. So it could have been they weren't quite as stupid as I originally thought, but they WERE just stupid enough to fire every munition at the Celestra that was hiding behind the Battlestar with its flak up. But after reading a recent thread I realized that I almost always instinctively hide my Celestra behind my Battlestar. I kept wondering why the Cylons were stupid enough to keep firing all their missiles at my Battlestar with its flak up.
